We have had east southeast winds of 10 to 15 knots and seas around 2 feet off Ft. Lauderdale this week which is optimal weather for deep-dropping on some of my favorite wrecks. We started today’s trip aboard the Lady Pamela II with some trolling along the reef edge. After only a couple of passes we caught 2 nice kingfish and about a 15 lb blackfin tuna. As I moved the boat out into about 300 feet of water we re-rigged for some deep bottom-fishing. With calm seas it was easy to set up over my favorite wreck, and we boated a 25 lb amberjack on the first drop. A couple of drops later we landed a 30 lb amberjack. Both of these fish hit the baits before they hit the bottom, which was our goal. We finally did get some baits all the way down and they produced a monster Warsaw grouper. This fish was 100lbs of fight that lasted all the way up from 300 feet. What a great trip!
