Fort Lauderdale Deep Sea Fishing Report
The deep sea fishing report for Fort Lauderdale is a mixed bag this week. Each day we’ve fished has been different catches of migrating fish coming through our area. Kind of surprising really considering the phase of the moon, the full moon usually slows the bite down but that hasn’t been the case this month.
We began with some Bonito and a few Kingfish on the reef this week, our normal and usual pattern for this time of year. But the very next day we couldn’t find a Bonito OR a King. What we did find was a few nice sized Mahi-mahi’s and some small Wahoo, excellent table fare and exciting to catch.
The occasional Skipjack Tuna has also been present. We’ve picked at a few through the days and heard from other boats further off shore that schools are migrating south. This is the time of year when things really start to happen and fish are following the baits as they head from cooler to warmer waters.
Following our day of catching Mahi’s and Wahoo, the water had become dirty from rains this week and Dolphin don’t care for that kind of water. The reef was also slow as we trolled so we opted for some bottom fishing, catching some nice sized Vermillion Snapper. We attempted this very thing the next day and couldn’t get a bite, they had moved on. But 3 days later, we pulled some nice size Yellow Eye Snappers off the exact same spot, a few going 4+ lbs.
And there’s always that chance of something nice, like the 7” Hammerhead we released or this large Barracuda caught by this young man. He thought it was really big considering his own size, they were about equal. J
That’s our deep sea fishing report for this week from Fort Lauderdale, a mixed bag if you will. We’ll keep you up to date with what’s being caught.
