Palm Beach Fishing
This last weekend some of the Lady Pamela II sportfishing crew fished the “Operation Sailfish” billfish tournament out of West Palm Beach, Florida. The mission of the $500,000 tournament was to capture and release as many sailfish as possible over the course of two days of high stakes tournament fishing. A portion of the proceeds from Operation Sailfish was devoted to Operation Homefront, a nonprofit organization that provides emergency financial aid and other assistance to the families of service members and wounded warriors.
The LP II crew ran the Irish Twin, a 52 foot Viking sportfisher for four days, consisting of two days of pre-fishing as well as the two days of the tournament. Pre-fishing is critical in these high stakes tournaments as it gives competitors important information on where the fish are biting and what they are eating. The pre-fishing paid off, as Captain David was able to put the boat on the fish. Andrew Kennedy, the master angler aboard the boat, earned the top male angler award with eight sailfish releases. In addition to seventeen total sailfish caught by the Irish Twin team, a 25 lb kingfish and some dolphin were also landed.
