Mate Matts Moster Sailfish and YellowTail Snappers

July 20-21, 2014

On July 20 the Lady Pamela II had a six-hour charter and we trolled the reef edge off Ft. Lauderdale catching a bunch of bonitos and kingfish. We also landed a few small blackfin tuna; perfect sashimi! Our surprise highlight catch of the day was a nice sailfish that crushed a seawitch feather tipped with a bonito strip on the troll.

The Lady Pamela II went out on a four hour charter on July 21st. We again trolled the reef edge, catching more kings and bonitos. Toward the end of the trip we moved just off the reef edge in120 feet of water to try for some sharks. We had no shark bites but we drifted into a bunch big flag yellowtail snapper. It was very unusual, because these fish were off the reef and I did not see any bottom structure on the depth sounder that would attract them. They may have been hanging near a wreck or some small piece of debris just outside of the sweep of the depth sounder. Needless to say, I marked the spot on the chartplotter for later investigation!
