We had a very special weekend of fishing aboard the Lady Pamela II with Dalton and his family from Minnesota. He and his family were joined by Larysa from www.huntofalifetime.org. Larysa is ambassador of the State of Florida for “Hunt of a Life Time” which is a nonprofit organization that grants hunting and fishing adventures for children age 21 and under, who have been diagnosed with a life threatening illness.
Dalton’s dream was to catch a swordfish, so the first day we left the dock around 7 am and spent all day trying to catch one. Mate Robbie and I worked hard at it, getting two bites. Unfortunately, the first one threw the hook and the second one broke off. On Sunday, mate Justin and I started out fishing the reef to ensure that Dalton would get some fish in the boat. We caught four bonitos right off the bat and then started our run offshore to set up for swordfishing. We came across a huge cruise ship rope in 700 feet of water that was swarming with mahi-mahi. It was some crazy fishing as we caught 25 mahi-mahi off that one big piece of rope. We again moved offshore and made four daytime swordfish drops off Ft. Lauderdale but could not get a bite. Dalton didn’t get his swordfish, but he sure got a boatload of mahi!
