Today Captain JJ and I handled a 1p.m. – 5p.m. trip out of Fort Lauderdale. We trolled for the first 2 hours, missed a few bites and landed no fish. We pride ourselves on putting fish in the boat, and this wasn’t working, so, with five anglers onboard we had to make a positive move. We reeled in the trolling gear and rigged up some live bait for shipwreck fishing, hoping for an amberjack or big grouper. Again, no bites! We then tried some snapper fishing on the wrecks in 200-315 feet of water. No bites again! It was tough fishing, so we went north and offshore into 450 feet of water where tilefish are sometimes found. Finally, during the last hour of the trip we found the bite and ended up catching 16 nice size tilefish. These Atlantic tilefish are some of the best eating fish in the world. We gave it our best and eventually we were able to bring home the dinner!
