Fishing on Fort Lauderdale Shipwrecks

Sean, his father, Wes and his wife came fishing aboard the Lady Pamela II to try out our new fighting chair that everybody’s talking about. Once we cleared Port Everglades, trolling gear went in the water and we headed north. The first hour of fishing was a total tease; five bites and no fish! Our next move was to a wreck. The state of Florida sinks ship wrecks for artificial reefs. These wrecks are home to several species such as Grouper, Snapper, Game Sharks, Cobia, Amberjacks and Wahoo. Our first drop on a shipwreck and we were in the same boat, a bite but no fish. Captain Paul made another attempt and we finally got hooked. “Go ahead!” I got the okay to push the boat ahead and pull the fish out of the wreck for a fight. Wes’ wife jumped in the chair and landed a nice AJ. We finally got a fight out of this spot and we weren’t moving, we went for round two. Captain Paul did it again. Sean gave up his turn to Wes and we hooked another big fish on the wreck. In the mist of all this, I hooked a Mahi from the bridge and passed the rod off to Sean. Talk about action. There’s nothing like two friends battling for first fish in the boat.
