Daytime Swordfishing / Sailfishing Lady Pamela 2

March 19‑20, 2015

JJ and I had a daytime swordfishing trip today (the 19th) aboard the Lady Pamela II. We made our first drop 20 miles offshore Ft. Lauderdale in 1800 feet of water. We had no bites on drops one and two, but finally hooked up on the third drop. It took about 30 minutes to get the fish to the surface, and then it came right up out of the water for some great jump shots. This was a nice 125 pound swordfish that we put into the boat to finish up an awesome day.

March 20,
The official first day of spring found the Lady Pamela II offshore Ft. Lauderdale in flat calm water and very little wind. Our target today was sailfish and we usually use live goggleye baits and kites as our go to angling gear for these billfish. However, with no breeze we couldn’t fly the kites so we slow trolled a spread of live baits in about 180 feet of water. In the first 10 minutes of fishing we hooked into a sailfish doubleheader, with catches and releases on both fish. About 45 minutes later we had another sailfish doubleheader. This time we only caught and released one out of two fish. Overall though, not too bad, three for four on sailfish during a four hour charter.
