Here at Lady Pamela Sportfishing, we use a variety of fishing knots for a multitude of applications, situations and species. Some fishing knots are easier to tie than others. Over our decades of high-level offshore fishing, we’ve come to the realization that there are some complex knots that are worth the effort to practice and master. The Benjamin Knot is a great example.

It’s All About the Benjamin

The Benjamin knot is a knot that is used by most captains and mates in the charter fishing community as well as among professional tournament crews. We at Lady Pamela Sportfishing use the Benjamin knot to join the main line to a snap swivel with a knot strength greater than 90% of the line’s breaking point.

The Benjamin knot is typically tied using 40 – 130 lb test line, both monofilament and braid. When you tie this knot, you will notice that it is quite similar to the world-famous Bimini Twist -and for good reason. Both knots are effective, require practice to tie properly and can last all day.

Another benefit of the Benjamin knot is that it allows you to reel all the way up to the snap swivel, without having to worry about the knot getting fouled in your roller guides. This is a huge advantage for big game sportfishing.
