The Ft. Lauderdale weekend fishing started on Thursday this week, with a great all day trip aboard the Lady Pamela II. I ran the boat today with Dominic as a mate, and we went offshore looking for dolphin and wahoo. We caught one keeper dolphin and threw back a bunch of short ones. We came back in over the reef in the afternoon and caught some nice kingfish and bonitos. During the last hour our anglers wanted to try to catch a big shark. I decided to go shallow today and set baits out in 90 feet of water, just off the reef edge. We had the balloons down and the big bottom baits down for barely 15 minutes before we got a huge bite on an 80 International spooled with 100 lb mono. We fought this unknown monster for an hour before getting it close enough to see that it was a 9 foot, 400 pound tiger shark. I’ve caught four or five other tiger sharks in Fort Lauderdale and they’ve all been about 3 to 4 feet long and about 60 lbs. This thing was just an awesome sea monster. Great catch gang!
