July 2‑8, 2014
I spent a busy first week in July representing Lady Pamela II sportfishing in Kona Hawaii for a series of three big game fishing tournaments. I fished the Marlin Magic Lure Tournament on July 2nd and 3rd, the Blue Marlin World Cup on July 4th, and the 27th Annual Firecracker Open Big Game Tournament on July 5th and 6th.
The World Cup tournament is probably the wildest tournament I have ever fished. It is a one day only, Blue Marlin only tournament, and angling teams are allowed to fish anywhere in the world for 8 hours in their time zones. There is one winner only. No second place. We landed a 245lb Blue Marlin off Kona, but it was not quite as big as the 656 lb winner, also caught off Kona.
We had our greatest success in the Firecracker Open where we landed a 72 lb yellowfin tuna to take the prize for that category. Overall we had killer fishing in Hawaii, but it sure is nice to finally get back home to Ft. Lauderdale!
