Lady Pamela II crew fishing aboard the My Doris for the Lauderdale Billfish Tournament
Captain Paul, Darin and I fished aboard the My Doris, a 40′ Cabo Express for the Sailfish Cup in Miami as well as the Lauderdale Billfish Tournament. The Lauderdale Billfish Tournament had 47 boats competing from Miami, Broward and Palm Beach. We left Port Everglades at 6:30AM, lines in the water at 7AM. We fished right in front of the steeple with six kite baits I 350 ft of water. Within the first 15 minutes of fishing, Drew hooked Sailfish #1 and fought the fish for 30 minutes before a release was performed. We ran back into 120 ft of water and waited only 20 minutes before we caught Sailfish #2. By 10AM, we were 3 for 4 and made a move north just off of Deerfield pier. We caught a single Sailfish in 120 ft of water and as soon as we got our spread back out, a double header bite gave us a total of 6 Sailfish. We headed south to Hillsboro Inlet and put our spread out in 180 ft of water. No nibbles there, it was time to move again. We continued heading south and stopped over top of a wreck in 130 ft of water. Our spread attracted another double header bite, however both fish managed to release themselves. Not even 5 minutes after we lost 2 Sailfish, a single ate and Pauly caught Sailfish #7 for the My Doris. We eneded up winning second place Inlet.
